Watermelon Pie

A traditional pastry from Mylos Island

You will need:

  • 8 medium size slices of watermelon
  • 6 tablespoons of sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of honey
  • 100 gr butter
  • 8 tablespoons of flour
  • 60 gr sesame
  • 1 teaspoon cinammon
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar


Cut the watermelon and remove the skin and the seeds.  Add watermelon in a strainer.  Squeeze it to make juice and collect it in a separate container.

Melt 50 gr of butter.  Mix with sugar, flour, 3 tablespoons of honey and watermelon until it forms a dough, neither too soft or tight.

Coat the rest of the melted butter in a 2 cm thick pan and sprinkle it with sesame.  Add the watermelon mix and put in the oven.

Bake it in preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 45 minutes.  When cooked and browned, pour remaining honey over the pie.  

If desired, before serving, sprinkle with powedered sugar and cinamon
