A traditional recipe from Zagoria villages, in Epirus
- 10 apples
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
Mix the walnuts, sugar and cinnamon.
Remove the core of the apple using an apple corer or by using a knife and making a hole in the apple's center. The apple should have a vertical cavity in the center. Fill the cavity with the walnut mixture.
Place the apples in a deep baking pan, and sprinkle them with any remaining sugar and cinnamon. Pour a cup of water in the pan, around the apples. Bake them until the apples get very soft.
